A students’ exchange programme was organised over 4 days between September 14 to 17, 2011 by the young doctors of Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD), an organization of physicians in India committed to the cause of peace and development in our country and also in the rest of the world as an affiliate of IPPNW (International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War), the Nobel Peace prize laureate in the year 1985. The programme comprised of a number of seminars and interactive discussion sessions by young doctors led by former National Students’ RepresentativeDr.AnkitaChoudhary, exchanging thoughts with medical students from ASCOMS and GMC Jammu, GMC Amritsar, DMC Ludhiana, CMC Ludhiana, Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Bathinda, and also students from Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana. They demanded an end to the nuclear arms race and all other forms of violence. Over 1500 participants expressed sincere concern over the dangers of nuclear energy, and urged the governments to consider strong policy decisions to tap renewable sources of energy, especially solar and wind.
