Global Health Courses and Programs around the World
by Tarik el Scheich
IPPNW Germany

This page is probably the best for getting  an overview of the many programs in Europe and North America. There is a contacts database of academics, researchers, representatives from NGOs and medical students who can act as peer educators.

While this course may not be one that draws a lot of students from abroad, since it's only an additional lecture, it could be attractive for students at McMaster. The extensive Readsing List is good for anyone interested in the subject.

This page offers interested students a lot of good ideas and tips for starting something themselves - with extensive online resources and useful links

The International Health BSC is almost a classic in terms of Global Health Education. Many IPPNW students have partaken in this course in the past and the website is a very useful resource, including links to NGOs and other programs

The International Federation of Medical Student Associations has long been very involved in the field of Health Education and their page offers a lot of background information and resources for starting something yourself, although it might not be the most useful page in term of finding a running academic program to participate in.

This is a five-day course on global health issues using plenary discussions, workshops and mentoring sessions for pre-service students of medicine, nursing, dentistry, and students of other health professions of Southeast Asia and the Western-Pacific Region. Generally, the course promotes awareness of the many dynamic factors of politics, culture, legal and social structures, history and economy, that influence health. The course will provide an introduction to the ancillary knowledge that can be offered by a public health perspective as well as the skills and tools provided by epidemiology and community medicine.

The European University Center for Peace Studies (EPU) in Austria offers an intensive course in peace and conflict studies to a selected group of 45 students from around the world All the courses are taught in English, by leading specialists in their field from around the world, including Johan Galtung, one of the founders of the academic discipline of peace research and frequent mediator in international conflicts.
