| . . You can mail your questions to the candidates at candidates@ippnw-students.org. Proochista Ariana 15.8.2004 - 15:27 Dear All IMSR candidates, I would liketo ask how you propose, in your term, to strengthen the IPPNW student infrastructureand encourage and support cross-regional student projects. Thank youand Best Wishes, Proochista Alex Rosen 15.8.2004 - 21:25 Thank you Proochista for this important question. I've given this topic somethought in recent weeks and have come up with some ideas that might be ableto improve the current infrastructure. First of all, I support the idea of a student governing body, composed ofnational and regional reps, presided over by the two international reps. This institution could then decide on important matters, such as the guidelines, without having to meet in person. To ensure legitimacy and transparency,I've designed a website specifially for this governing body, including acomplete list of its members, a forum for discussion and pages for the differenttopics up for vote. I believe that this will in time enable the student movementto make decisions on imporant issues in a democratic and transparent waywithout having to wait for the next World Congress. With this body in place, the possibilty for a thorough international discussion would be given. If you want to look at the temporary version of the website, it's up at www.ippnw-students.org/GB I've got some more plans concerning the website - I would like to involvemore students from all over the world in its design, encourage student groupsto fill their own individual pages with photos, articles, etc., and therebycreate a medium for an exchange of ideas amongst the different affiliatesand motivating students by presenting their work. Featuring a different nationalstudent affiliate each month could be a great method to initiate somethinglike this, I think. This would not only increase awareness for other nationalaffiliates and regions, but also encourage cooperation, as many affiliatesare working on similar topics and would probably greatly profit from eachothers' knowledge (the way IFMSA is sharing information amongst its members should serve as a great example here) Next, I believe that the way the reporting is done by national reps to theirregional reps and by the regional reps to the international ones can be facilitatedand improved by introducing a form sheet, which would state the most importanttopics, which should be included in such a report. With the constant movementgoing on within the student community, oftentimes newly elected reps aren'tsure of what their reports should include. The temporary version of thisform sheet can be viewed here and is merely meant as an exmaple of how something like this could look. This form sheet should not restrict the representatives, but rather givethem an aid in creating their report. Cross regional projects are a vital part of the student movement, as theyensure a firm infrastructure, bring on new members, increase the role ofthe student movement within IPPNW and serve as a great foundation for anexchange of ideas between students from different countries. The websitesI've helped set up for NWIP, ReCap and MedEx are just the beginning. I couldimagine promoting these projects all the more as IMSR, trying to raise fundsfor ReCap, helping NWIP reach out to more and more students and foundingMedEx-Exchanges in many different countries. Seeing that it's just a matterof organizing a place for a foreign student to live for two months, as wellas a possibility to work in a hospital and a social project (which usually doesn't cost a thing and is greatly welcomed by both of these institutions),I believe that the possibility for a larger number of exchange opportunitiesis still out there. OK, while there's some more ideas still brewing, they're not quite readyyet for publication so that I'll finish here and look forward to more innovativeideas from the rest of the candidates, because no matter who will be elected,as long as these ideas serve the purpose of improving the infrastructureand efficiency of the IPPNW student movement, they should be taken up andput to good use. All the best for now, Alex Rosen Mustafa Ganim 17.8.2004 - 13:44 Dear All of you, It is reaaly a good idea to begin such discussion since we are to put a specificplan of work for our future as IPPNW representatives or even as IPPNW activemembers. I agree with many things being menthioned by Alex especially the websitereally it has a very vital role in getting more and more people to be involved, support, or at least know about IPPNW. I would like to focus on the importanceof media work of the projects, so it is not enough to run the projects butalso it is very important to follow every project, meeting, movement... byalot of media work not only by internet but also by TV, Radio, Magazines....... So we can reach more and more minds and decision makers alsoour organizationwill be well known this will help much especially concerning the fund raisingit will will be easier to get fund for projects when you are well known byyour work. Also it is very important the type of the projects rather thanthe number of them so we are to run various projects to be suitable for worldwide and not only projects suitable for only one region, this will improveour movemnet world wide. The sensitive issues such as the Palestino Israeli conflict, Iraq war, Indian Pakistani conflict, we are not to avoid discussingsuch issues but the opposite we are to enetr them deeply for sure with aneutral way to search for peaceful solutions , With best regrds, Mustafa Khagendra Dahal 20.8.2004 - 8:24 Dear friends, First of all, I would like to thank Proochistafor such an important question. I expect more of querries from differentfriends around the world. As far as the IPPNW students' infrastuctureand cross-regional projects are concerned, I can see three pillars of them.First, at the policy making and planning level. As said by Alex, this canbe well done by the student governing body consisting of 2 IMSRs and regional and national MSRs. Though any student member is able to proposeanything he or she wants to be done in future, the final decision regardingall the matters pertaining to students movement would be done by the Governingbody. Second, at the implementation level. Atthis level, it depends on the total works and the projects we have. Mostof the things put forth by Mustafa and Alex are the part of this. Ipersonally prefer small number of strong, functioning and result-orientedprojects rather than non-functioning large number of projects. Because ifwe cannot implement projects for the lack of resources - man, moneyand material - our vast energy which we invested in designing them will befutile. Third and very important is structural and net-workinglevel. This has two components: first, strengthening the organizational structureand internal networking and second, networking with the organisationswhich share common goals and philosophies. To achieve these three levels of actions, withoutany doubt, communication via web is probably the most efficientand cost-effective mean. Because this can help in all, planning, implementingand net-working. I am happy to hear that Alex has already started some ofthe works in this regard. For successful implementation of the projects, they should be well-planned in all terms - resources, feasibility, sustainabilityand strong organisational base. We can work in collaboration with the like-mindedorganisations to achieve common goals. Similarly we need to work out thenecessary funding for all kinds of work from organisations which supportour work. Regional and cross-regional projects can facilitateinternational partnership and understanding of diverse culture and commonroots of different problems. I can see establishing strong NWIP base in SouthAsia where we need more of the effort to educate both the leadership andthe people in general about the threats of the nukes. ReCap will strengthento include the regions around the world where refugee problems are burning.Similar thing is true for MedEx and other projects. The projects like BrainDrain, small arms, children and war will be well established and functioning.I am currently working with Brain Drain and Children and War projects. Actually, if I write everything now, there wouldbe no work left once there will be the new leadership. I strongly agree withAlex that it doesn't matter who will take the new leadership, our ultimategoal is to take IPPNW students movement to a new height in the daysto come. Expecting more of the questions in future, Khagendra Dahal IMSR Candidate . Ahmed Abd-El.Maksoud 25.8.04 - 16:15 HI dear proochista , how is everyboy, i apology for my late reply as i wasn'tchecking my email regularly, and i would like to thanks you also for thisimportant question, which since i started thinking of the candidation forthe IMSR i started imagining how the ippnw students should be, 1st , i would likesee if there is any defects now in this infra structure which the IPPNWstudents is built on or not, actually it took me a lot of time to do that ,but it let me see that the structure is so stronge but it lakes to somethingwhich should be there to provide and secure the long term and constant movementsfor the IPPNW students, this thing which is the specificity and specialityi mean, we should have people specialized in making fund, we should havepeople speciaised in the advertizing , we should have peole specialised intechnology and providing the IPPNW students with the media and the graphicsneeded in the advertising, in briefe establsihment of new supportive devisionsresponsible of fund & advertizing & Internet and technology and lastone for reviewing the guide lines and trying to improve and develeope it. but these Supportivedevisions, for example the "International Fund Supportive division" (IFSD),will not search the fund in a certain region but in all over the world andprovide it for all IPNNW students world wide,, that is how we can secureequal chances for most of all students world wide regardless thier countryof region,, their representationin the IPPNW Govering body will be through recomendations in the IPPNW worldcongress and upon these recomendations the GB will be able to take the decission, their reporting willbe 3 times every yeat, 2 of thme during the whole year ,after 4 then 8 months,,should provide to the IMSR then a final one to the world congress at themeeting. that is how is seethe the picture , i have a lot of dreams , with your help it will be true, meet you all there GOD welling in china, for more details aboutmy plan of action you may see this page http://www.ippnw-students.org/Ahmed.html please if you have any quesions ,don't hesitate to contact me on candidates@ippnw-students.org salam ( in arabic itmean Peace, that is how we great each other) Ahmed Abd-El.Maksoud
Dear our IPPNW candidates and members,
I would like you to discuss in Beijing the Book project.
This project is ongoing project it is international one, it intends to support the Palestinian medical students through organizing book collections (English medical text books only).
Although there are many medical students and doctors in USA,Canada,Australia,UK,Irland,Egypt,Jordan,India,Pakistan,Iran,Turkey,Armenia,Sudan,Norway,Danemark,........ who wishes to donate thousands of books only tens reached us, this is because of the difficulties in delivering them especially in terms of Fund which is not very expensive,
so what I suggeston our Candidates for the elections is to explain about their specific plans for this promicing project which when succeed has the following beinifits,
1-To help our students get the required book for their study , free of charge or with a very cheap price.
2-To put in the library of our university the books which it needs, and may be we can build own library for IPPNW in Palestine which has many fruits.
3-Open the communication between medical students in Palestine and those at the international level which by itself can lead to many projects ,communications, dialogue or at least friendships.
4-Finally all of us can feel better when we work to reduce the suffering of your colleagues in Palestine,
So from my side what I suggest is to reorganize this project and to give it the required importance , to form a committee both at the local and international level, to find the required fund, and to work on it like what we have done with refugee project which is also apromicing one,
So I would like to hear from you, especially the candidates,
Regards,
Mustafa
