IPPNW Baltic Bike Tour 2006

History

15 years ago, IPPNW students cycled around the Baltic Sea in order to draw attention to the danger of Nuclear War. The tour received a lot of media coverage and was a unique bonding experience for the participants. The students held public street actions in the cities they visited and demonstrated people the danger of Nuclear Weapons for their health.

In 2005, nuclear weapons are still stationed in countries around the Baltic - in Russia and Germany, for example. The world is still not safe from the nuclear threat. In September of 2005, IPPNW is holding its World Congress in Helsinki on the Baltic Sea. What a great opportunity to revive the Baltic Bike Tour and have students from all over the world join up in a large-scale bicycle tour passing through cities on the Baltic on their way to the Helsinki conference!
