Day
15
Monday, September 4th
A day of rain - From Västerby to Söderkulla
Agyeno and Robbi
taking the lead
Waking
up early again an backtracking some of the way, the group had a lot of
plans for the day. First of all, an interview with local media had been
scheduled in Loviisa, afterwards a meeting at the town hall of Porvoo
was planned and the evening was supposed to be spent at some campsite
near Helsinki... If only it doesn't rain...
|
But
then it did... and didn't stop. So the group grudgingly made its way
through hours of wet straddling and finally reached the dry and warm
hotel in Loviisa in time for the interview, during which Alex tried to
explain the aims of the tour. The paper's photographer had even waited
for the group at the city's entrance...
|
 After this
well-deserved break, the group continued along the road to Porvoo,
where they arrived in the early afternoon. With 45 minutes left before
the meeting with the local medical coordinator, Otto took part of the
group for a sauna-quickie so as to arrive nice and fresh for the
meeting in the city hall.
|
Ahmed
discussing the issues of nuclear energy use in Finland with the local
medical coordinator who welcomed us in the city hall of Porvoo, which
we used, amongst other things to: dry out, find flights in the
internet, roll out the praxing carpets, eat some snacks, use their
bathroom, plan the rest of our journey and have a look at the town from
up above - thanks Porvoo!!!
|
Nino,
Anna and Maren cycling past Porvoo's famous row of fishers' houses
before leaving the town out west in the direction of Helsinki...
|
Arriving
early evening in our designated campsite, Nino and Agyeno immediately
took to the swings while Ulli washed up the dishes, Soila took a short
walk in the wood, Maren and Alex prepared some great tasting
Ratatouille and Pauli recovered from a harrowing day of driving back
and forth with the bus

MEDIA COVERAGE
As of now there
have been several press reports about the Baltic Bike Tour 2006 in
Tallinn. Also, the participants who already resided in Tallinn ahead of
the tour's start on Monday, gave a radio interview there and might have
convinced a local television station to report on the start of the tour
and appear for live coverage (more infos on that on Monday). For all
those of you who are fluent in Estonian or Russian - here the first
published articles on the Tour. No worries for all those who don't
understand one of the two...more links to media coverage on the event
are to follow soon.
