Day 14
Sunday, September 3rd
Meeting politicians and the public - from Kotka to Västerby

Meeting a member of the Finnish parliament in Kotka

This morning the group had to get used to waking up early, as Otto and Soila had set up a meeting with a member of the Finnish parliament in the port of Kotka and with things still lying around the kitchen, time was of the essence as the bus was being packed, tents put together and dishes washed up after a quick breakfast.

Here's Otto, Ahmed and Alex listening intently to Pentti Tiusanen, a surgeon and member of the Finnish parliament for the Left Coalition. He talked to the group about Finland's current nuclear policy, the construction of a new Nulcear Power Plant and Finland's responsibility as president of the EU Council.

After the meeting with Tiusanen, the group went on to the old castle of Kotka to host Target Kotka, which was a rather small affair but effective in reaching at least a couple of people who were participating in a children's play in the castle held that day.

The crew of Target Kotka

The rest of the journey from Kotka was rather relaxed. With some short rests on the way, the group made their way according to Soila's and  Otto's plans...

Next up on the busy schedule of the day was a little splurge in one of Finland's countless lakes. Nino gave Agyeno some swimming lessons while Ulli took to some serious sun bathing and Robbi captured it all on photos

What a paradise...

The late lunch break was spent at some friends' house of Otto's - who had prepared some homemade wine and a huge dish of Paella. The group stayed there for some hours, mingling with their hosts and giving a fair chance to their produce ;)

The group continued for some more kilometers to yet another lake, where Otto had decided to pitch a beautiful campsite. On the way, they came by this idyllic little artists' village...

The evening's campsite

Once they had arrived on the little peninsula jutting out into yet another lake, the group pitched their tents and took to starting up the campfire, tossing on a few sausages and potatoes and engaging in some serious discussions as well as trying out their newly purchased salmiakki...

MEDIA COVERAGE

As of now there have been several press reports about the Baltic Bike Tour 2006 in Tallinn. Also, the participants who already resided in Tallinn ahead of the tour's start on Monday, gave a radio interview there and might have convinced a local television station to report on the start of the tour and appear for live coverage (more infos on that on Monday). For all those of you who are fluent in Estonian or Russian - here the first published articles on the Tour. No worries for all those who don't understand one of the two...more links to media coverage on the event are to follow soon.
