MSSR Brings
Target X to UPCM
On August 9,
2011, the University of Philippins Medical Students For Social
Responsibility Commission on
International Physician on the Prevention of Nuclear War brought
Target X to the UPCM Campus. Target X is a worldwide campaign by
student groups to inform their colleagues about nuclear warfare. A
large red “X” was placed inside the campus and it was surrounded
with information about the adverse effects of nuclear weapons.
This large red “X”
mark was placed at the lobby of the BSLR. Students who passed by were
invited to listen to a 5-minute spiel by the different members of the
MSSR. The spiel covered different topics such as: What would happen
if a bomb drops at this point?, Why the Philippines should care?,
What is the link between nuclear weapons and medicine?, Why should
you bother about the presence of nuclear warfare?, and Why abolition
is the only answer.
The Million Pleas
video by the new members of the MSSR was also shown after the event.
After listening to the spiel, students were invited to say their
“please” for the Million Pleas campaign and to sign the petition
to abolish nuclear weapons.
