Students Promoting Activism and Recruitment CampaignThis campaign is designed specifically to give every interested student the possibilty to participate. We need you! Below you'll find several options for contributing to the campaign. Spread the word about IPPNW at your local university campus
Surely, there are still many medical students at your university, who've never heard of IPPNW and who might be interested in working together with you and your group. If you're alone at your university, all the more a good reason for recruiting new members. Here are some ideas of how you can motivate people to join you and IPPNW: - having an IPPNW bulletin board at a central location, where you can hang up a poster, some flyers or advertisements for IPPNW conferences, projects, etc., will definitely attract a few interested students who're walking around campus with open eyes. Often it's no problem to reserve a little bit of space on some of the public boards - sometimes it's just a matter of using a bit of tape to divide an existing board, creating your own IPPNW bulletin board with documents we have posted on this site. - usually, the student representation at your university has already heard of IPPNW or IFMSA and would principally be interested in letting other students know about this great opportunity to work together with medical students from all over the world. Giving them flyers and posters or asking them to let you talk to new students about IPPNW, when they arrive at the university is often a great way to get people motivated. Again, please check out the documents we've prepared. - sometimes all you need to do in order to get people to become involved is to announce an informative meeting on "Medicine and Social Responsibilty" or "Medical rotations abroad", hang up a few posters advertising the event and then inform those students who come about the possibiltites within the IPPNW student movement, including international student projects like MedEx, NWIP or ReCap. - There's the possibilty to get your very own ippnw-students website. Just send a short mail to the webmaster, specifying which information you want to appear on this site and we'll set it up for you - for free! - write an article about IPPNW in your university newspaper or find other media to promote IPPNW (university radio, medical students' cafeteria, etc.). Visit other university cities near youIf you already have an active group at your university, maybe you might consider travelling to another campus nearby, telling the people there about IPPNW. Basically, you can use the same methods described above. Of course, it would be great if you lived near a national border and were able to visit universities on the other side. German students visiting Dutch universities or MedEx students visiting universities during their exchanges were just some of the ideas we had, when we were planning this campaign. Try to use projects like NWIP or conferences, which take you to other universities anyways and combine these trips with your activites within the recruitment campaign. Use the help of older IPPNW membersOftentimes, IPPNW physiscians have lots of contacts at universities and might be of some help, if you explained to them why it is so important to promote student activity within IPPNW. By actively participating in IPPNW projects, students can demonstrate that they're actually an integral part of the organization and can improve the chances of the physicians helping them win new members. Tell foreign students about IPPNWUsually, they're always loads of foreign students hanging around the medical campuses. Maybe some of you have contacts to them, either because you're in the same courses, or because you're helping to take care of the foreign students. Either way, handing them a flyer about IPPNW or talking to them about the possibility of joining the student movement would be a great help for our campaign. Never before has there been so much interregional exchange amongst students - why not use this to our advantage and help local IPPNW groups get started in countries where IPPNW is not as well known? Use your studies abroad to promote IPPNWYou might also be spending a semester abroad. This might also be a great chance to introduce IPPNW in regions, where no one has heard of it yet. Check out the tips presented above to see how you might be able to get other students interested in IPPNW. Help us with the translation of our information brochuresBrowsing through our documents, you might notice that we've already begun to translate some of them into other languages. This makes it easier to address students in different countries, especially countries, where English is not as wide-spread as in some other parts. We need all the help we can get in translating these documents, so if you're up for the job, don't hesitate to take it on ;-) Simply pick your document, translate it and send it to us. We're grateful for your help and so are the students who profit from it, by having documents in their language, which they can then distribute. Help us with the design of this websiteThe same goes for this website as well. Right now, our webmaster is pretty much doing all of the designing, the debugging and the creative work, so if you've always wanted to work with a website like this one, don't hesitate to join our team ;-) Provide us with new and creative ideas for promoting IPPNWOf course, these are just a few ideas, which we had when we were planning this campaign. We'd be more than grateful for your input. Do you have ideas for promoting IPPNW? Things that have worked for you at your university or comments on some of the things presented above? Just mail them to us and we'll be more than happy to incorporate them into this site and into the campaign. Support us financiallyOf course, a campaign like this needs its funds. Between the web design, the documents, and the trips, we constantly need to look for new ways of meeting our costs. Therefore, we'd be more than happy if you chose to support us financially. We can definitely use the help. Just send us a mail and we can talk about the details. |
