IPPNW's One
Bullet Stories are a great way for Imedical students and doctors to
work together in en effort to curb small arms violence. Below you will
find some easy to follow steps so that you can get started in creating
your own One Bullet Stories. All through the process, you can work
together with fellow students or interested doctors.
1. Identify a
gunshot victim willing to contribute his or her story and willing to be
photographed during the medical management process
2. Obtain the
individual's socio-economic profile
3. Obtain the circumstances that led to
the
incident
- where, how, who was involved etc.
4. Collate the
medical data and highlight the clinical challenges including
rehabilitation
5. Compute the
medical costs
6. Compare the
costs of management with the local socio-economic data
7. Describe the
country's or city's crime/conflict status, with statistics if
possibility
8. Take as many photos as possible
describing each stage
9. Describe the
changes that have occurred due to the incident, or adaptive changes
within the
family
10. Explore nuancical behaviour that could
be a result of the incident - to illustrate
coping mechanisms to physical or social changes that have
occurred
11. Visit the
family and speak with the members on the challenges they face and how
they are
coping
