Reaching Critical
Will is an initiative from the Women's International League for
Peace and Freedom that started in
1999 with a single focus: to

Their
findings: U.S. and Russian nuclear-weapons systems remain on high alert.
This fact, combined with the aging of Russian technical systems,
has recently increased the risk of an accidental nuclear attack...an
accidental intermediate-sized launch of weapons from a
single Russian submarine would result in the deaths of
6,838,000 persons from firestorms in eight U.S. cities.
Millions of other people would probably be exposed to
potentially lethal radiation from fallout. An agreement to
remove all nuclear missiles from high-level alert status and
eliminate the capability of a rapid launch would put an end to

Coalition to Reduce Nuclear Dangers
was founded in 1995 to coordinate
the largest and most active arms control and disarmament groups in a
common effort to strengthen national and international security by
reducing the threats posed by nuclear weapons.

for a Livable World
The Council for a Livable World is among the USA's preeminent
arms
control organizations and focuses on halting the spread of weapons of
mass destruction, opposing a national missile defense system, cutting
Pentagon waste and reducing excessive arms exports.

The Fourth Freedom Forum is an organization that encourages
discussion, development and dissemination of ideas that will free
humanity from the fear of war. Their emphasis is on barring armed
aggression and eliminating nuclear and other weapons of mass murder
through enforceable international law.

The Middle Powers Initiative is dedicated to the worldwide
reduction
and elimination of nuclear weapons. Through it, eight international
non-governmental organizations are able to work primarily with "middle
power" governments to encourage and educate the nuclear weapons states
to take immediate practical steps that reduce nuclear dangers, and
commence negotiations to eliminate nuclear weapons.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom created the RCW
project in 1999, in order to increase the quality and quantity of civil
society at international disarmament fora, such as those that take
place at the UN.
Women's
Action for New Directions (WAND)
WAND
empowers women to act politically to reduce violence and militarism,
and redirect excessive military resources toward unmet human and
environmental needs. WAND was founded in
1982 as Women's
Action for Nuclear Disarmament. With the end of the cold war,
they became Women's Action for New Directions, and
have been dedicating their energies to redirect federal budget
priorities away from the military and toward human needs.

WILPF envisions a

Australian
Anti-Bases Campaign Coalition
The Australian
Anti-Bases Campaign Coalition is made up of a broad range of groups and
individuals who are working for the removal of all nuclear war fighting
and associated intelligence facilities and activities in Australia. The
Australian Anti-Bases Campaign sees the closure of bases as a positive
step towards world - wide disarmament and peace.

American Security Information Council (BASIC)
BASIC is an
independent research organization that analyzes US government policies
and promotes public awareness of defense, disarmament, military
strategy and nuclear policies in order to foster informed debate.

The
Center for Defense Information is dedicated to strengthening
security through: international cooperation; reduced reliance on
unilateral military power to resolve conflict; reduced reliance on
