Acronym promotes effective approaches to international security, disarmament and arms control. Engaging with governments and civil society, the Institute provides reporting, analysis and strategic thinking on a range of issues relevant to peace and security, with special emphasis on treaties and multilateral approaches.

Reaching critical will
Reaching Critical Will is an initiative from the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom that started in 1999 with a single focus: to increase the quality and quantity of non-governmental organization preparation for and participation in the 2000 Review of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

NEJM Article: Accidental Nuclear War- A Post War Assessment
Their findings: U.S. and Russian nuclear-weapons systems remain on high alert. This fact, combined with the aging of Russian technical systems, has recently increased the risk of an accidental nuclear attack...an accidental intermediate-sized launch of weapons from a single Russian submarine would result in the deaths of 6,838,000 persons from firestorms in eight U.S. cities. Millions of other people would probably be exposed to potentially lethal radiation from fallout. An agreement to remove all nuclear missiles from high-level alert status and eliminate the capability of a rapid launch would put an end to this threat. Read on...

Coalition to Reduce Nuclear Dangers
Coalition to Reduce Nuclear Dangers was founded in 1995 to coordinate the largest and most active arms control and disarmament groups in a common effort to strengthen national and international security by reducing the threats posed by nuclear weapons.

Council for a Livable World
The Council for a Livable World is among the USA's preeminent arms control organizations and focuses on halting the spread of weapons of mass destruction, opposing a national missile defense system, cutting Pentagon waste and reducing excessive arms exports.

Fourth Freedom Forum
The Fourth Freedom Forum is an organization that encourages discussion, development and dissemination of ideas that will free humanity from the fear of war. Their emphasis is on barring armed aggression and eliminating nuclear and other weapons of mass murder through enforceable international law.

Hague Appeal for Peace

The Hague Appeal for Peace is an international network of individuals and organizations dedicated to sowing the seeds for the abolition of war through advocacy and training through education. They believe that Peace education is a mechanism to prevent war and violence by transforming a culture of violence to a culture of peace.

The IAEA works for the safe, secure and peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. Its key role is to contribute to international peace and security, and to the World's Millennium Goals for social, economic and environmental development

Middle Powers Initiative
The Middle Powers Initiative is dedicated to the worldwide reduction and elimination of nuclear weapons. Through it, eight international non-governmental organizations are able to work primarily with "middle power" governments to encourage and educate the nuclear weapons states to take immediate practical steps that reduce nuclear dangers, and commence negotiations to eliminate nuclear weapons.

Non Nuclear South Asia
A site devoted towards establishing a South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan) that is free of nuclear weapons or energy.

Nuclear Age Peace Foundation
The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation initiates and supports worldwide efforts to abolish nuclear weapons, to strengthen international law and institutions, to use technology responsibly and sustainably, and to empower youth to create a more peaceful world. Founded in 1982, the Foundation is comprised of individuals and organizations worldwide who realize the imperative for peace in the Nuclear Age.

Nuclear Policy Research Institute
NPRI seeks to create a consensus of commitment to end the nuclear age by mounting public education campaigns, establishing a pervasive presence in the mainstream media, and by sponsoring high-profile symposia.

Oxford Research Group
ORG combines rigorous research into nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, UK security policy, and global security in the changing international environment, with an understanding of the people who make those decisions. Their areas of research include: preventing the further spread of nuclear weapons; control of the arms trade; constructive approaches to dealing with international terrorism and the 'war on terror'; and effective non-violent approaches to conflict prevention and resolution.

Peace Action

Reaching Critical Will
Reaching for a Critical Mass of Political Will for Nuclear Disarmament-The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom created the RCW project in 1999, in order to increase the quality and quantity of civil society at international disarmament fora, such as those that take place at the UN.

Women's Action for New Directions (WAND)
WAND empowers women to act politically to reduce violence and militarism, and redirect excessive military resources toward unmet human and environmental needs. WAND was founded in 1982 as Women's Action for Nuclear Disarmament. With the end of the cold war, they became Women's Action for New Directions, and have been dedicating their energies to redirect federal budget priorities away from the military and toward human needs.

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF)  
WILPF envisions a transformed world at peace, where there is racial, social, and economic justice for all people everywhere. See this site for more info.

Australian Anti-Bases Campaign Coalition
The Australian Anti-Bases Campaign Coalition is made up of a broad range of groups and individuals who are working for the removal of all nuclear war fighting and associated intelligence facilities and activities in Australia. The Australian Anti-Bases Campaign sees the closure of bases as a positive step towards world - wide disarmament and peace.

British American Security Information Council (BASIC)
BASIC is an independent research organization that analyzes US government policies and promotes public awareness of defense, disarmament, military strategy and nuclear policies in order to foster informed debate.

Center for Defense Information
The Center for Defense Information is dedicated to strengthening security through: international cooperation; reduced reliance on unilateral military power to resolve conflict; reduced reliance on nuclear weapons; a transformed and reformed military establishment; and, prudent oversight of, and spending on, defense programs.
