The
International Physicians for the Prevention of
Nuclear War have a vibrant and active student
movement. IPPNW-Students are engaged in a
number of local, national and international
projects, practice social responsibility as
future doctors and look beyond the limitations
set by their medical studies to make this
world a safer and healthier place to live.
When they graduate and start their residency,
many are overwhelmed by the timely constraints
brought on by work, research, patient care,
hospital bureaucracy and young family life, so
their social and political engagement often
gets shelved.
The IPPNW Doctors in Training program seeks to
offer a low-threshold opportunity to
these young physicians, tailored to their
needs in order to stay involved in the
organization in these trying first years of
their medical career.
Weekend retreats aimed specifically at doctors
in training are an integral part, uniting old
friends from student times, giving room for
exchange and socialising while at the same
time keeping them in touch with IPPNW topics
and ongoing campaigns, showing ways in which
they can become involved even with their
timely constraints.
In Germany, many of these weekend
retreats have already taken place.
Photos and reports about these biannual
meetings can be found (in German) on the
