IPPNW-Students PalestinePalestine Friends Project: Building Peace without Being Bound to Politics or ReligionImagine yourself in a foreign culture (Palestine), understand anther perspective and settle into a second family, means much more than just visiting Palestine. Visit Palestine and stay one week or more, during which you will be in contact with the Palestinian medical students and Palestinian people. Motivation and aims...Students of different origins living intensively together contribute to international understanding.
Five medical students from Bologna University Italia came to visit Palestine and stayed one month here in Palestine from (29/07 – 28/08/2004). During this period they lived in Abu Dies where our university is, in our houses with us. During this period they met many medical students, doctors, students from many faculty, and Palestinian people. They spoke with them about many things such as the struggle between us and Israel, the wall, what our people think and know about European people, and many other things. Also, they met with the Dean of our faculty, discussed many things and gave him a letter from the Dean of Bologna University to be the first step for building a strong relationship and collaboration between us. Future plans:We will welcomed a group of British medical students from the mid of April until the begining of May 2005. As a part of our bilateral medical axchange programme we sent two Palstinian medical students of our active member in Augest 2006 to do their surgery elective in UK at Manchester hospital. They are active IPPNW members Mahmoud Shaeikh and Mohammad Swilih. Mahmoud and Mohammed spent two months in UK and they met with members of MEDSIN (British IFMSA) and MEDACT (British IPPNW). Our student chapter has regulated everything for them including money for transportation. Students coming to Palestine will work with UPMRC (Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees) - one of the main Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations. It has been working for 25 years on the territories in order to make up for the lack of sanitary infrastructures and to promote health prevention and sanitary education in the community.
