IPPNW-Students Palestine

2007 Report

Our student chapter now is divided into two active groups which are highly communicating with each other, the first one which is in Paris , composed of 8 active members and led by Mustafa Ghanim; they are master's and PhD students at Paris 6 university. Their activities are:

  1. On 7 November 2006, they participated in the national meeting of the French affiliate which took place in Paris, and they agreed to share work and projects between the Palestinian and French affiliates of IPPNW and student chapters as well.
  2. On 22 and 23 February 2007, they took part in the general assembly meeting of the French affiliate and its student chapter with the participation of German doctors and medical students in Strasbourg, where they did a presentation about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and they discussed the difficulties which face the Palestinian health system. They participated in the work shops and actively participated in the target-x project.
  3. In March 2007, they wrote the proposal of the new project for peace in Palestine and Israel, and they sent it to IPPNW lists, affiliates and central office. As of right now we have a lot of support for it and we are still working on this great project.
  4. On 27-30 April 2007, they participated in the Eropean IPPNW annual student meeting in Porto where they had a very active role. They presented the idea of the new project for peace in Palestine and they discussed it in detail where they got many good suggestions and support. Also, they spoke about their ideas for peace initiatives in the Middle East.
  5. In May 2007, our affiliate decided to ask Mustafa Ghanim to be in charge of the Recap project, and to be its local IPPNW coordinator and Mustafa accepted that with pleasure, so he formed a local committee for this year composeed of 10 members, three in Paris working for extra funds and seven in Palestineleaded by Rajai atout and organizing the logestic issues of accommodation...

Now for the second group which is in Palestine and led by Mahmoud Abuissa:

  1. We have participated in writing the proposal of the new project for peace in the Middle East, and we foud support for it from the university and many other local organizations.
  2. We are planning to send Rajai Atout, one active member of our student chapter, to present the project at Amman conference in June 2007.
  3. For Recap 2007, we have the local committtee in Palestine leaded by Rajai Atout, and they contacted Jenin theatre for that, they are working on the accommodation of the students and to write the exact programme for them, and they are working with close communication with the committee in Paris.
  4. As far as the Helsinki congress, Mahmoud Abuissa participated as the national student representative and presented the Palestinian projects there in addition to organizing the the issue of Recap.
  5. Target-x project: we are planning to do it in our university the coming month.
  6. Medical exchange program: we are working to send one student this year to England to do his elective with the help of Tony Waterston, MEDACT in UK.
  7. New national elections took place in 15 may 2007 where the student chapter decided to re-new Mahmoud's term with an extra two years and he accepted that decision with pleasure.
  8. For the book project, we are working hardly to overcome the financial problems which restrict it.
