Target X, Bergen, Norway, 2006

28 October 2006 a group of medical students from the faculty in Bergen did a "target x" demonstration in downtown Bergen. The weather was rainy, as it tends to be in Bergen this time of year, however a lot of people took the time to stop in order to talk to us and receive an information folder from NLA (Norwegian physicians against nuclear war). In addition to giving out information on why we think it is necessary to stop the spread and testing of nuclear weapons, we also did a petition calling for the norwegian government to work a convention that bans nuclear weapons.

People queued to sign our petition and when the time came to end the demonstration about 450 signatures where gathered. The "Target-Bergen" crew consisted of 16 medical students and 1 physician. We found that most people responded positively to the initiative whereas others seemed to be ignorant of the threat nuclear weapons still pose today, over sixty years after the first nuclear bomb was dropped in Hiroshima.

Resent events in North Korea emphasise the fact that the fight against nuclear weapons is essential and important in order to make this world a safer and better place for us and for future generations. We hope our contribution, even if it is a small scale demonstration like the one we had in Bergen, will help in this important task.
