"practice
& engage" is a program of the German Chapter of IPPNW,
directed
at all medical students. We offer professional exchanges all over the
world,
combined with experiences in social projects beyond the traditional
medical
horizon. The program seeks to show students the influence of political,
social and ecological conditions on health.
Medicine
is not just the treatment of ailments and disease. Medicine is also
about
prevention, finding the causes of physical and psychological traumata
and
about conflict-management. Many wars could be prevented, if their
causes
would just be recognized and treated. This is not some kind of utopia,
but the experience of professional mediation specialists and
conflict-researchers.
This program gives important insights into scientific and pratical
conflict
prevention.
