Hi, I'm Soila
Niemi from Finland. I'm a young doctor working as a GP in
the city Espoo, Finland. I participated on Baltic Bike Tour in 2006. http://www.ippnw-students.org/baltic/blog.html
I've also been semi-active in other projects in Finnish IPPNW as a
medical student. I'm a passionate cyclist, as well.

Motivation

I'm participating on BAN tour because I
want to make people think about
nuclear weapons. It's really difficult for me think of anything as
unnecessary as nuclear weapons. As they are rarely talked about, people
don´t even realize that they exist and are a threat for millions
of
people and the nature. I'm living next to a nuclear weapon state
(Russia) and vaguely remember the anxiety caused by the Chernobyl
nuclear disaster in my childhood. What would it be like if a nuclear
bomb would be used? I would like to do, what most people probably do:
not to
think about it. But I know that won't help. We must tell people
about the reality and let the politicians know that nuclear weapons are
something that we really don't want!
