Introduction Hello! My name is Nidia Rodriguez and I am from Ecuador. I’ve been involved in IPPNW for about 4 years now, as a student first and now as a DIT (Doctor in Training). I finished Medical School last May and have been doing my mandatory medical social service for the last 8 months in a small Indigenous community in northern Ecuador. I’ve been a little isolated in my little health center working mostly in primary health care and preventive medicine. Being said that, it was only obvious that I was going to find that the work of IPPWN is applicable at all levels, from universities and hospitals in big cities to small towns. That is exactly what the diversity of IPPNW has to offer. Not only are we from different countries and cultures, but the work of IPPNW aims to identify and work on the different issues of the various countries in order to create a safer world for us and for future generations.

Motivation

As I was finishing medical school I found myself with little time to visit Universities like I used to talk about Nuclear Weapons. However, I had a computer and internet access, thus I decided to contact Maria Valenti to start a new project with what I had and we came up with the Medical Voices Against Violence Project, which was launched in April 2009 in New York at the National Student Conference of PSR. This project aims to share the experiences of the IPPNW members as to how we came to join this wonderful organization and what motivated us to take a step forward for Peace and against Violence. So, we collect stories in various formats (videos, written statements, pictures) of our members and share their testimonies with others through a website. This material can be used for recruitment, as an inspiration for new members and as a reminder for those who have been involved for a while. One of my goals for participating in the BAN tour is to collect these stories as we travel.
