Apil Dev Neupane
Kathmandu, Nepal

Nominated: "Best uphill cyclist of the tour"

Introduction

I am Apil Dev Neupane, a 6thyear medical student and medical intern at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu, Nepal. I have been involved with PSR Nepal for the last 5 years I am in medical School. I am participating in the BAN Tour during the summer of 2010 as I would be in coincidentally and Luckily in Germany as part of regular student exchange between IPPNW Germany and PSR Nepal. This would be my first cycling trip with my IPPNW friends and I’m certainly very excited! This is a wonderful opportunity for bikers from around the Globe to raise their voices on issues of Nuclear Weapons heard far and wide.

Motivation

I am a highly motivated young medical student from the Himalayas. Having been part of PSR Nepal Student Chapter all these years I gained a tremendous insight into the Social Responsibility that medical professionals carry. This small country sandwiched between two giants China and India has remotest possibilities of possessing Nuclear Weapons yet, to be with the Giants is always at risk! Moreover Just 2 days back our government announced an ambitious plan of establishing a Nuclear Center for Medical and developmental purpose, a signal that WE must be concerned from our part.

The Bike Tour is a powerful and peaceful method of protest to make our Voices heard and send a strong signal to global stakeholders in Nuclear armamentarium .We being future physicians are in a unique position to urge politicians that Nuclear Weapons possesses unparalleled and ever-lasting threat to humanity. Cycling this way also provided us with ample additional opportunity to share our perspectives from so many different countries and cultures! Establish and strengthen the bond we already have!
